The race could descend from the sacred cats of the temples of Siam. The latter received special attention within the palace and were exclusively reserved for members of the royal family.
It was at the end of the 19th century that the breed was observed for the first time outside the Asian continent thanks to the Consul General of Bangkok, Edward Blencowe Gould, who brought back from his travels a couple of Siamese cats.
A few years later, this cat was exported to other countries in Europe as well as to the United States. It was in the 1950s that the breed gained a real popularity. Since then, the physics of the Siamese has changed. Nowadays, we find “modern” Siamese and other cats of the same breed, closer to traditional physical characteristics.
